ShopNora — Privacy Policy

Effective 5 October 2026

ShopNora, made by CJ Designs, is a shopping-list app. You make a list for each supermarket, record what things cost, and compare what the same shop would cost at different supermarkets. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server belonging to us that receives your lists, prices or trips.

The short version: your supermarkets, products, prices, lists and trips stay on your device.

Nothing leaves the device unless you send it, apart from one optional lookup: when you scan a barcode that is not already one of your products, the digits of that barcode can be sent to Open Food Facts, a community product database, to identify the product. You can switch that off in Settings, and then ShopNora itself makes no network request at all.

ShopNora contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash-reporting service.

What is kept on your device

Supermarkets you add, products (with their barcodes and pictures), prices, shopping lists, finished trips and your settings. All of it is kept in the app's private storage on your device. None of it names you, and ShopNora does not send it anywhere. It does show what you buy and where, so it is worth treating as private.

What can leave your device

Two things, and only when you ask or allow it:

Online product lookup, and Open Food Facts

When you scan or type a barcode that is not already one of your products, and Online product lookup is on, ShopNora asks Open Food Facts (a non-profit, community database) about that barcode, to suggest a name, brand, size, category and a picture. The same barcode digits are sent when you tap Find picture or Get sharper picture on one of your own products.

Switch Online product lookup off in Settings, and ShopNora itself makes no network request of any kind. Scanning still works: a barcode is matched against your own products, and you can add a new product by hand.

Camera and photos

On Android, the barcode scanner uses Google's ML Kit library. ShopNora's own code sends only what is listed above. We have not been able to verify whether that library, on its own, sends any technical or usage information to Google, and we cannot see or control it.

What ShopNora never does

Backups

Settings lets you back up on the device itself (a copy kept inside the app) or export a backup file to keep elsewhere. A backup holds everything above, including your own product photos. It is not encrypted: anyone who has the file can read what you buy and where, so keep it somewhere you trust. Backups kept inside the app are deleted along with the app. A backup you exported is yours and stays where you saved it.

iOS and Android may also include an app's storage in their own device backups (iCloud, Google), under your own account settings. ShopNora does not control that.

Deleting your data

In ShopNora, go to Settings, then Your data, then Clear application data. After you type a word to confirm, everything stored on the device is removed, including product pictures and backups kept inside the app. Uninstalling the app removes it too. We hold none of your data, so there is nothing to ask us to delete. A backup file you exported is not touched by either: delete it where you saved it.

Third parties

The only third party ShopNora's own code talks to is Open Food Facts, as described above, and only while Online product lookup is on. Open Food Facts data is available under the Open Database Licence, and its pictures are shared by contributors under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike; ShopNora credits the source in the app, under Settings, Data sources and licences. There are no in-app purchases and no advertising.

Children's privacy

ShopNora does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information from anyone at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
