MusicVault MP3 Tag Editor lets you clean up and edit the tags on your MP3 collection, right on your Mac. Answers to common questions are below — and we're always happy to help by email.
Use File → Add Files… (⌘O) for individual MP3s, or File → Add Folder… (⌘⇧O) to import a whole folder at once. You can also drag files or a folder straight into the window.
Select a track in the list, then edit its fields in the Inspector on the right. You can also right-click a track and choose "Edit Track…" to open a popup for it with Previous/Next buttons, so you can work through a whole album without closing it each time.
Select multiple tracks (⌘-click or ⇧-click), then right-click and choose "Batch Edit…" (or Track → Batch Edit…, ⌘⌥B). You can find and replace text, change case, trim whitespace, add text before/after, clear fields, copy values from the first selected track, or apply one piece of artwork to the whole selection — with a live preview before you apply anything.
File → Save Selected saves just the tracks you've selected; File → Save All saves every modified track in the list. Nothing is written back to your MP3s until you choose one of these — edits stay in the app until then, so you can freely experiment.
Only when you save. Until then, every edit is held in the app and can be undone. File → Revert Selected discards unsaved changes on the selected tracks and restores what's currently on disk.
No. Your MP3 files and their tags stay on your Mac. The only network requests the app ever makes are the optional MusicBrainz/Cover Art Archive lookups described below, and even those only send the search text you type — never your files.
Select a track and choose Track → Look Up Online… to search MusicBrainz by artist, album, title, barcode, or a MusicBrainz release ID, then optionally fetch that release's cover art from the Cover Art Archive. It only ever runs when you start it — never automatically. You can disable either service independently in Settings → Online Services.
Yes. Empty fields render blank in both the Inspector and the Edit Track popup; the sidebar's "Missing Metadata" section is the easiest way to find every track that's missing something. Click into the field on the right side of the row and type to fill it in.
Select one or more tracks and choose Track → Add Artwork… to pick an image from your Mac, or drag an image directly onto a track's artwork thumbnail in the Inspector. Track → Remove Artwork clears it again.
Yes — Track → Rename Files… (⌘⇧R) renames files based on a pattern built from their tags, and Track → Extract Tags from Filename… does the reverse, parsing tags out of the filename itself.
Right-click it (or select several) and choose "Remove from List," or File → Remove from List. This only removes it from the app's working list — it never deletes or moves the actual file on disk.
