Effective 23 July 2026
MusicVault MP3 Tag Editor is a native Mac app for editing the tags (title, artist, album, artwork, and similar) on your own MP3 files. It works entirely on your Mac: there is no account, no server that stores your music or its tags, and nothing is uploaded unless you explicitly ask the app to look something up online.
Your music files never leave your Mac. The app only ever writes tag changes back to the files you chose to import, on your own disk. The one exception is the optional "Look Up Online" feature, which sends only the search text you type — never your files or your library — to a metadata lookup service, and only when you explicitly ask it to.
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 files or folders you choose to import | To display and let you edit their tags (title, artist, album, artwork, and similar fields) | Stays on your Mac. Read via macOS's own file picker; changes are only written back to those same files when you choose Save. |
| Search terms you type into "Look Up Online" (artist / album / title / barcode / MusicBrainz release ID) | To search for matching releases | Sent to MusicBrainz's public API (musicbrainz.org), only when you explicitly run a search from Track → Look Up Online… |
| A MusicBrainz release ID you select | To fetch that release's front cover artwork | Sent to the Cover Art Archive (coverartarchive.org), only when you explicitly choose to fetch artwork for that result. |
| Discogs personal access token (only if you choose to enter one in Settings) | Reserved for a future Discogs integration — not used by anything in the current version | Stored only in your Mac's Keychain. Never transmitted anywhere, since no Discogs lookup exists yet to send it to. |
| App preferences (editing defaults, enabled lookup services, and similar settings) | To remember your settings between launches | Stored locally via macOS's standard preferences system. Never transmitted. |
The app can look up album metadata and artwork from MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive. This only ever runs when you explicitly choose Track → Look Up Online… — it never runs automatically on import, on launch, or when you select a track. Only the specific search terms you type are sent; your full track list and your audio files themselves are never sent. You can turn either service off independently in Settings → Online Services, which stops that service from making any network request at all.
The app runs inside Apple's App Sandbox and only ever accesses the specific files or folders you pick via macOS's own file picker. Depending on where your music lives, macOS may separately ask you to grant access to a protected folder (such as Desktop, Documents, or Downloads) the first time the app tries to read from it — that prompt comes from macOS itself, not from anything the app requests directly.
There's no server-side data to retain or delete — nothing about your music or your tags is ever stored anywhere but your own Mac. Tag edits are only written to disk when you choose Save (Revert is available any time before that). Uninstalling the app removes its locally stored preferences; it never touches your music files, which are yours regardless.
MusicVault MP3 Tag Editor is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
